LAGOS COMIC CON2013
BRIEF HISTORY OF THE COMIC AND ANIMATION CONVENTION
The convention was first held in 1970 by a group of San
Diegans and lasted for 4 days during the summer, originally showcasing comic
books, science fiction, fantasy, film, television and related popular arts. The
convention now includes a larger range of pop culture elements, such as
animation, toys, video games, web comics, fantasy novels, amine, manga,
collectible cards and cartoons. The comic convention happens to be the third
largest convention in the world.
THE LAGOS
COMIC AND ANIMATION CONVENTION
Is a one-day event that will bring those in the comic,
cartoon and animation world together in one venue for one reason, to achieve
one goal, which is seeing constant appreciative changes in its industry. It
also promises to be a funfair for youngsters in every way. The event which also
held last year promises to record a bigger, better attendance and coordination
with more exciting and interesting features this time. Last year, we had a
registered attendance of over 500 people. This year, the event attendance will
no doubt be more than tripled as we are putting great efforts in ensuring this
happens. Along with Panels, seminars, and workshop with comic and animation
professionals, there will be previews of upcoming feature films, and portfolio
review sessions with top comic, animation and game companies.
The convention will include events such as Costume contest,
Comic/Animation-Con film festival, which showcases shorts and length feature
movies that do not have distribution or distribution deals in Nigeria and
Africa at large.
It will also include the traditional part of the event which
includes a full exhibition/trade fair, seminars, workshops, discussion panels,
gaming, costume contest and more. The event promises to be more family
friendly, as we are creating a section of the convention dedicated to children.
This will ensure the parents at the convention peace of mind to have a secured
place to keep their wards while they enjoy the event. Other new highlights for
this event include, a VIDEO GAME competition, Short film competition, Cosplay
Competition and the Comic and Animation panel Awards which will be a
celebration of all things comic and animation.
